BaconCamp is an ad-hoc unconference inspired by BarCamp and dedicated to all things bacon. It is a fun event with discussions, dishes and interaction from attendees.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

When you come, be prepared to share and eat with BaconCampers.

When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.

Attendees must bring a dish, judge/eat dishes, host a session, or help with one, or otherwise volunteer / contribute in some way to support the event. All presentations are scheduled the day they happen. Prepare in advance, but come early to get a slot on the wall. The people present at the event will select the dishes they want to eat or presentations they want to see.

People bringing dishes are responsible for making sure that recipes of their dishes are published on the web for the benefit of all and those who can’t be present. The winners of prizes, categories of prizes, etc should also be documented somewhere.

In the spirit of another event, Masterbacon, we’ll be also doing some judging of the dishes participants bring. This isn’t meant to be a competition as much as its meant to be a wrinkle to the traditional BarCamp theme. Plus prizes are fun. Some potential categories for dish prizes are:

  • Best Presentation
  • Most Creative
  • Most likely to convert a veggie
  • Best use of bacon grease as a cooking ingredient
  • Best Name
  • Best Would-have-been-better-hot
  • Best use of a bacon press

These are by no means hard-and-fast. The odds are some dish will appear that defies any category and simply must be in a class of its own. Write it down and vote for it. For example, is there such a thing as “Worst use of bacon”? Who knows.

Above all, have some fun.

Contact us if you have any questions or want to participate. Let us know if you’re hosting your own. BaconCamp is about support as much as it is about bacon and information.
